We organize our work into three categories: Affective Mapping, Urban Transform-actions, and Ocup-actions. Here you can find the projects that we’ve already done in each category to better understand what we do.

Affective Mapping

 

Essa Nossa Rua Maranhão – IED

Location: Instituto Europeo di Design, Maranhão st., São Paulo, SP
Completed: March 2015
Function: Coordination
Proposal: Accomplish an affective mapping workshop of Maranhão Street with the IED graphic design students.
Implementation: During one week we invited the graphic design graduate students of IED to see Maranhão Street with a new gaze, searching for hidden beauties and details, listening to people, and pulling apart the pieces that make this street unique to discover its stories. As a result, the students developed the concept of “The Maranhão Sandwich”, where the different ingredients reflect their discoveries during the week, but with a highlight on people’s stories as the guiding element that defines the personality of the street.

Nossa Senhora Aparecida Plaza

Location: Moema, São Paulo, SP

Proposal: Map the stories, talents, and beauties in and around Moema’s Nossa Senhora Aparecida Plaza.
Development:Map the stories, talents, and beauties in and around Moema’s Nossa Senhora Aparecida Plaza.
Implementation: The affective mapping of the Moema plaza happened in two steps. First, we asked residents from the area the places where they had good memories or pastimes and we marked them on a commun map. We then went to each individual place to listen to the stories behind each tradition or special spot in the area.

Neve Challenge

Location: Milagres, Maranhão, MA
Realization:Ongoing
Function: Articulation and community engagement
Client: Neve (Kimberly Clark) e Mandalah
Proposal: Make an affective diagnosis and mapping of local leaders. Engage the community to the collective construction of an alternative solution to sanitation developed by Neve team.

Development: Neve Challenge joined a multidisciplinary team of young people from all over Brazil to develop a solution to a creative, innovative, cheap, easy to build and replicate bathroom to serve regions where traditional sanitation is not practicable. The first prototype will be built in the community of Milagres, in Maranhão state.
On a first visit we did an affective diagnosis of the region, getting to know the community leaders, the beauties of the place, the talents of the locals and the stories that make this community unique.
After this first mapping we returned with all the team members so that everybody can see and feel the beauty of the community. Back in São Paulo, and during the month of July, the team will be immersed in a collective creation process, developing the first prototype of a bathroom experience that will be built in August in the community! MentalMorfose – Castelhanos

Location: Castelhanos, Ilhabela, São Paulo, SP

Proposal: In partnership with SAS Brazil we conducted the first pilot of a new project: Mentalmorfose: Expeditions with purpose, gathering health activities, art, culture, hands on interventions and personal and community development.

Development: Acting in a community that SAS Brazil has been working for two years, we conducted an expedition of four intense days. We collected gynecological tests between the women of the community, made make-up and self-care workshops, distributed vermifuge for children, did theater and cinema, collected inspiring stories of residents, created an exhibition celebrating local talents and created communication signs to spread in the 4 beaches of Castelhanos bay, creating bridges between community and tourists visiting the island. Mão na Massa na Praça

Location: Praça João Alves Silva, São Paulo, SP
Realization: February to April 2015
Function: Coordination
Client: Carrefour
Proposal: In partnership with Atados and the employees of Carrefour, perform a
urban transformation in the square in front of the headquarters of Carrefour at the Real Parque, involving the community around.

Development: The urban transformation began with a first gathering: a collective picnic to collect dreams and ideas for the square at lunchtime. Based on the collected dreams we designed, together with the community, the physical changes we wanted to accomplish in two days, we mobilized our resources and talents and put our hands on to build the square of our dreams! Red Bull Do It Yourself

Location: Jabaquara, São Paulo, SP

Proposal: Complete the first Brazilian edition of the Red Bull initiative DIY by constructing skateboarding obstacles for a mini-skate park designed by the skateboard community.
Development: In partner with the Red Bull sports area, we organized the community construction of a skate-park at the Vila Guarani School Club in Jabaquara. The skate community and other interested volunteers designed the obstacles and its disposition in the Club area, did a fundraising and put the hands on to make the dream come true. A couple of professional skateboarders and skateboard activities also helped make the event even more popular! (Photos: Flink Ark)

Rivabem – Campo Largo

Location: Campo Largo, Paraná, PR
Realization: September to December 2015
Function: Coordenação
Client: SIG
Proposal: Complete a baseline study for the region around the SIG factory and do an urban intervention involving the community to bring recreational opportunities to the neighborhood.
Development: After completing the baseline study we identified many opportunities, local resources, and a huge human potential to build the first public space in the community. During the process the community shared their dreams and completed a community-driven recreational park with workout equipments, a children’s playground and a living area for the youth and elderly. These projects were put into place at the end of the year in a two-day collective effort involving the community and SIG representatives.

Kant Plaza – Pueri Domus

Location: Kant Plaza, Chácara Klabim, São Paulo, SP

Client: Pueri Domus
Proposal: Complete an urban transformation of the Kant Plaza with the community and students of the Pueri Domus School.
Development: The transformation of the Kant Plaza started with a picnic where everyone present (including Pueri Domus’ teachers and students) shared his or her dream for the intervention project. It only took one day of hands-on work to complete all of the planned activities. Together with the help from the organization A Batata Precisa De Você we constructed a playground, various paintings, street games, benches and picnic tables. (Photos: Flink Ark)

Criança Fala: Color and Music

Location: Glicério, São Paulo, SP
Realization: July, August, and October of 2015
Function: Technical Partner
Proposal: Invited by the Criança Fala project, organize and complete three hands-on moments with urban interventions in the Glicério region, focusing on painting, urban kindness, games, music, recycling, and murals.
Development: For the first hands-on project, in July, there were two days of games and artistic experimenting. We completed, with the children from the community, stencil activities, paintings, street games, and circular dances. In August we made another of the children’s dreams come true by creating an interactive music board made with recycled materials. In October we had another day of activities in which we painted a mural in the School Alberto de Oliveira celebrating the street games that the children liked most or dreamed about! During all of these actions there were also other activities (developed by various partners): graffiti, planting, poetry, storytelling, music, dancing, games, card exchanges, etc.

Se Liga na Praça – Edital Redes e Ruas – Perus

Location: Perus, São Paulo, SP
Realization: May to July 2015
Function: Coordenação
Proposal: Organize ON and OFF line community mobilizations and urban transformations in two plazas with Wi-Fi connection (Água Branca and Perus). The project Se Liga na Praça was contemplated with Redes e Ruas edital (a partnership between the Human Rights Secretary and Cultures & Services) and was developed in a partnership with the Movimento Boa Praça and the NGO Atados.
Development: In the Samba plaza, in Perus, we completed, together with the area’s residents, the local government, businesses, schools and local organizations, an amazing urban transformation!
As a team, we constructed new benches, picnic tables, bike racks, children’s park (with seesaw, slide, mini-trampolin, and jungle gyms), a covered stage, a wheelchair-access ramp, an outdoor workout station, mosaic tiles on the stairways, a historical mural of the neighborhood, a dream mural, an animal mural, football goals, signs, pained benches and tables, a drinking fountain, music, a communal lunch, and lots of love!
To get all of this rolling there were a few activities based on our mapping methodologies: a baseline study (with communal mapping activities of the neighborhood and a talent show); a Projection session (a collection of the dreams and ideas to transform the plaza and a meeting to create a collaborative model of the plaza); a hands-on process (with a fundraising gathering and a campaign to make the community’s dreams come true); and accompaniment (communication and mobilization workshops in the CEU Perus and library telecenters).

Volunteer Day Viacom- NGO Nossa Turma

Location: CEAGESP, São Paulo, SP
Realization: May 2015
Function: Coordenação
Proposal: Organize Viacom’s international volunteer day by transforming the space of the NGO Nossa Turma’s, in the CEAGESP industrial area.
Development: In a partnership with Movimento Boa Praça, the NGO Nossa Turma, and with the project ITMais, we spent one month completing various activities with the 40 students that frequent the space around the NGO. To define the physical transformations we were going to implement at the daycare during Viacom’s volunteer day, we first collected the dreams of different children and, collectively, designed the space to reflect their ideas. The design of the space was thought together with the daycare coordination, valuing the safety of the children and creating various recreational and sensory activities. On the hands-on day 80 Vicacom volunteers, along with Nossa Turma’s teachers and collaborators of the ITMais project, showed up to make this dream a reality. The children also actively participated paining and doing other hands-on activities!

Se Liga na Praça – Edital Redes e Ruas – Água Branca

Location: Conde Francisco Matarazzo Jr Plaza, Agua Branca, São Paulo, SP
Realization: February to April, 2015
Function: Coordenação
Proposal: Organize ON and OFF line community mobilizations and urban transformations in two plazas with Wi-Fi connection (Água Branca and Perus). The project Se Liga na Praça was contemplated with Redes e Ruas edital (a partnership between the Human Rights Secretary and Cultures & Services) and was developed in a partnership with the Movimento Boa Praça and the NGO Atados.
Development: On Água Blanca’s Conde Francisco Matarazzo Jr Plaza the process of urban transformation passed through a previous community diagnosis; a collective lunch with dream collection and a happy hour session to design the intervention project. With the help from residents, companies, restaurants, the local government and volunteers, everyone put the hands-on to complet a bike rack, a dog park, a picnic table, paintings on benches, a hammock space, a bamboo pyramid, street games, a kid’s patio, tree climbing, signs, and a lot of music and happiness – not to mention our two delicious collective lunches! The community continues to meet to organize a soccer championship and an artisanal fair so that the plaza remains lively and occupied.

Coruja Project: Pedestrian Crosswalk

Location: Vila Madalena, São Paulo, SP
Realization: March 2015
Function: Coordenação
Proposal: Complete one of the community’s long-time dreams to paint a crosswalk between the Corujas Park and the Corujas Plaza.
Development: Together with the groups Rua and CaféNaRua we painted a pedestrian crosswalk connecting the Corujas Park and the Corujas Plaza to complete the request that the local community had been asking the CET for three years. Together with the residents and people passing by the area we organized two stages to implement a fun and effective solution to the community’s need. First, we painted the crosswalk. Second, we completed a painting on the street in tribute to, and inspired by, the stream that passes through the community.

Vem pro Edite

Location: Edite Park, São Paulo, SP
Realization: 2013-2014
Function: Coordenação
Proposal: Re-awakening of the Arlindo Rossi Plaza.
Development: For this project we helped organize various cultural activities and projects to upkeep the plaza. We started with a few community picnics with art, environmental, sports, and other activities. The work gained strength and turned into the ViverCidade movement that promotes the use of public spaces in the city of São Paulo. See more!

Coruja Project

Location: Vila Madalena, São Paulo, SP
Realization: 2013
Function: Coordenação Técnica
Proposal: Create new uses and connections in Coruja Park.
Development: Through community gatherings like picnics, music, and other activities, in partnership with CaféNaRua, we promoted participative workshops to collect dreams and ideas about how to improve the park. During these activities community members reflected on the quality and use of public spaces. Apart from physical interventions in the park, we also worked with the School Olavo Pezzotti to promote weekly permaculture workshops with middle school students led by Peter Webb. See more

The whole process was collaboratively funded by the fundraising platform Catarse, which helped raise more than r$25,000 from 150 people and 7 different companies.

GVT na Praça

Location: Vila Madalena, Santo Amaro, Tatuapé, Santana e Brooklin, SP
Realization: 2014
Function: Help with the mobilization and training.
Proposal: Improve the public spaces in the neighborhoods with GVT connection in São Paulo.
Development: Coordinated by the Elos Institute, this initiative is an experience program for residents and other interested individuals to learn about engagement and collective construction methodologies in popular communities. Renata Strengerowski acted in the events recruiting youth for the trainings, mediating relationships with the local government and acting as the project’s architectural technician.

Escola na Praça

Location: Vila Madalena, São Paulo, SP
Realization: 2013
Function: Coordenação Técnica
Proposal: Get youth and grade-school students to get to know their city and implement practical actions to promote citizenship and awareness.
Development: This 1st version of the project, called Escola na Praça, was part of the Coruja Project promoting weekly meetings with 5th-grade students from the School Olavo Pezzotti (Vila Madalena). Our partner Peter Webb, a permaculture expert, led art and permaculture workshops in which students turned trash into treasure by creating and decorating planter boxes for flowers and fruits. He also led discussions about the city, rivers, and other subjects.

Escola Na Rua in Bororé Island

Location: Grajaú, São Paulo, SP
Realization:August 2014 – Virada Sustentável 2014
Function: Design and Implementation
Proposal: Enhance the relationship of the School Professor Adrião Bernardes with the local community and promote rehabilitation and occupation of Ecoativa cultural space.
Development: Within the Virada Sustentavel’s 2014 official program and in partnership with various Grajaú groups, we worked with a group of 30 grade students of Adrião Bernardes School in an experiential education process. During one week the students participated in mapping projects, communication and artistic experimentations in the public spaces around the school to revive and redefine the identity of each place. The students searched for sensory stimulants, good stories, the island’s hidden beauties, talents within the community, existing resources, and residents’ dreams. All the while, they communicated and shared their findings through drawing and music workshops. The final hands-on step of the process was a weekend dedicated to transforming Ecoativa – a group of houses there that have been abandoned for almost a decade – into a cultural community center envisioned by the students, residents of the area, and organizations already working in the region. Since then, the space is very active through weekly artistic activities, cultural events, and other events organized by the community. This event boosted a partnership between the collectives, that started a group called EcoLab, one of the winners of Redes e Ruas’s grants to continue serving the region.

Since the transformation, Ecoativa’s space has remained alive and well! The local organizations and community hold monthly activities like soirées, fairs, educational events, artistic transformations, joint-programs, etc.! Integrated into the project Dia da Terra a water tank was donated by Aqualimp and painted by Mundano was transformed into a rainwater collecting cistern by the Ikobé group! Warriors Without Weapons

Location: Santos, SP
Realization: 2014
Function: Support in training facilitation
Proposal: Promote an event that stimulates entrepreneurship and social leadership.
Development: This program, created by the Elos Institute, summons young social entrepreneurs from all five continents for a 33-day immersion in popular communities in Santos for a training session and self knowledge. Renata Strengerowski, founder of Acupuntura Urbana, worked with other facilitators in program production and implementation in the community Caminho da União. See more

 

Oasis Santa Catarina

Location: Navegantes, SC
Realization: 2009
Function: Help facilitate
Proposal: Mobilize youth from all over Brazil to help cities that were 2009 flood victims in Santa Catarina.
Development: After the floods that swept the state of Santa Catarina in 2008, more than 500 youth from all over Brazil mobilized to offer their voluntary talents to help physically reconstruct six cities. Renata Strengerowski helped facilitating the group in Navegantes.

Fazedores meeting

Location: Casa de Trocas, São Paulo, SP
Realization: March 2015
Function: Coordination
Proposal: Make a hands on experience day, share our work methodology and create a group of people willing to transform cities and relationships.

Development: The meeting gathered young people who, like us, have the will to make dreams come true, put the hands on and be part of the change they wish to see the world. In a 4-hour meeting we experienced the 4 steps of our methodology of urban transformations, seeking abundance, dreaming the city, designing together, putting the hands on and thinking of continuity strategies for this new circle! The dream began to be realized right away. Several visual and artistic interventions were born in
attempt to create a visual language that could connect the house with the neighborhood. In the end, a family of neighbors came in the house to meet the space and the group! (Photos: Flink Ark and Rafael Guimarães)

OASIS Expedition – Good Deeds Day

Location: Avenida Paulista, Casa de Trocas and Ibirapuera Park, São Paulo, SP.
Realization: April 2015
Function: Coordination
Proposal:Perform good deeds and urban kindnesses in the city and participate in the good deeds fair, part of the global movement of the Good Deeds Day, organized in Brazil by Atados.

Development:In partnership with OASIS Sampa, Engajamundo, Casa de Trocas and Quintal de Trocas we held the Oasis Expedition, an urban journey through the 7 steps of the Oasis Game. In Paulista we performed various activities, games and dynamics to exercise the appreciative gaze, the connection between strangers, a dream exchange and our commitment to the realization of these dreams.
In Casa de Trocas we puted your hands on to plant a new eatable garden and create several floor paintings, games and mandalas with a final round of celebration with live music.
In Ibirapuera we exchanged dreams, letters and compliments, held a flashmob and played the “daily game”, reflecting on the impacts of our daily decisions on the planet. (Photos Taii Amaral and Rafael Guimarães)

Red Bull Amaphiko Festival

Client: Red Bull Amaphiko
Proposal: Complete an urban intervention open to participants during the Red Bull Amaphiko festival.
Development: During the festival we completed various simultaneous actions: A giant skyline painted on the Bandeira Bus Terminal overpass walkway giving information about the most well known buildings and places near the terminal; Building of tables and benches for the walkway area in front of the Red Bull Station; and our partner Meiofio wrote poetry on the guardrails of the walkway with strings. Climate Change Summit

Location: São Paulo, SP

Proposal: Make an urban workshop with a climate change theme to implement during the World Summit on Climate Change in São Paulo.
Development: Changing the world can be fun, and our everyday choices have a large impact on the planet. Taking this into account, we created a giant board game with posters talking about how our daily habits and actions influence what happens to our world.

Oficina Cidades a Pé

Proposal: Give a city-discovery workshop to evoke different sensory experiences and promote foot travel.
Development: In this experience participants walked around blindfolded so that they could pay attention to different sensory details and sensations, discovering and appreciating their sense of vision and exercising the trust between strangers and the appreciative gaze. After the experience the participants shared their findings in a group with a visual collection of what they had learned.

ASAS na Estrada – Expedition

Client: Red Bull Amaphiko social entepreneurs
Proposal: Together with the Red Bull Amaphiko social entepreneurs, we participated in a tour hosted by SAS Brazil to complete urban interventions in more remote places in Brazil.
Development: During the journey we carried a “Box of Wings” to collect people’s stories, carring out a letter exchange between strangers along the way. Each letter talked about a moment that the person gave wings to somebody in their life. At each place we did interventions in public spaces based on the contents of the letters, scattering these inspirational moments on walls, sidewalks, stairways, and lampposts of the cities we visited. These public transformations, together with the local organizations we worked with, took place in the form of poetry, mosaics, street posters, stencils, and murals contemplating the communities’ dreams in each different place.

Viver Metrópole Week – Mackenzie

Location: Mackenzie, São Paulo, SP

Client: Mackenzie University
Proposal: Give a workshop about urban interventions in Rotary plaza with the architecture students during the XII Viver Metropole Week at Mackenzie University.
Development: During the workshop we shared our methodology about how to transform public spaces in a participatory way, and together we experienced it the plaza. The students divided up and collected the dreams of people using the plaza and completed a collective model combining the best ideas from both groups. At the end some of the simplest dreams were chosen and we discussed how they could be made into reality during the implementation part that took place during the rest of the week.

Aruã Boulevard

Location: Aruã, Mogi das Cruzes, SP

Proposal: Complete a baseline study and emotional mapping of the area around the Aruã Boulevard commercial center to discover the community’s hopes and dreams for the space.
Development: In an attempt to understand the community’s desires for the only commercial space in the condominium complex on Aruã Boulevard, we mapped out the local institutions, the main leaders and the associations in the area. Then, after many inspiring conversations we gathered the information and wrote a report stating of intentions and new ideas for the space. We then participated in an event of change of season, searching for the local talents and a exchanging dreams (sweets for ideas) to understand what kinds of activities the users wanted to see in the space.

Urbanismo Caminhável

Location: Historical Center of Jundiaí, SP
Realization: July de 2015
Function: Coordenação
Proposal: We were invited by the Urbanismo Caminhável project in Jundiaí to conduct 3 workshops with students from the Rotary Club school with the goal of creating emotional attachments to the city, making the city center more walk-able, and looking at urban spaces as a big canvass for learning and exchanges.
Development: During the first workshop the students experienced the plaza blindfolded to be able to connect with their emotions and the senses present in the plaza. During the second workshop, students were prompted to learn about the history and interesting facts of some iconic buildings and other wonders of the city center. In the third workshop the students made pedestrian signs about the places they discovered with cutouts, collages, drawings, and photos taken by the students themselves during their walks. These signs will be turned into plaques that will be strewn throughout the city like an open-air museum created by the students.

SimpleCidade – Virada Sustentável 2015

Location: Centro Cultural São Paulo, SP

Proposal: Give creative and participative workshops about occupying and transforming public urban spaces during the weekend of the Virada Sustentável.
Development: NDuring the two-day intervention we gave simple workshops to transform the city in a fast, fun, and free effective way.
We had a picnic with a conversation circle about the city of our dreams; we folded the papers we had in our pockets into paper birds to carry our messages to strangers; made street posters; held a workshop to make a temporary mandala on the pathway; made spontaneous chalk games on the sidewalk and created urban furniture from wood pallets in a hands-on workshop with our partner A Batata Precisa De Você! We also created a simple manual to guide and inspire those who want to transform their community in an easy way.

2030 Sustainable Development Objectives

Development: With our partners from Engajamundo we held an open stencil workshop on the 17 Sustainable Development Objectives and interactive posters about everyday actions that can positively impact the planet.

Marquise Minhocão

Location: Minhocão, São Paulo, SP

Function: Apoio Técnico
Proposal: With our partners from Engajamundo we held an open stencil workshop on the 17 Sustainable Development Objectives and interactive posters about everyday actions that can positively impact the planet.
Development: In partnership with Triptyque and Movimento 90º the project Marquise Minhocão was born to repurpose the area below the Minhocão viaduct. We took advantage of the new bike path that goes under the viaduct to make the space more alive, humane, and less grey! On Sunday, May 10th we organized an open encounter to listen to the resident’s and other interested individuals to start a project for the space. There was a place where people hung their dreams for the space on a clothesline, the inspirational museum with images and references, a community model, vegan food, ice cream, music and a lot of happiness!

intenCIDADE – Mackenzie

Proposal: Evoke new sensory perceptions about the city to open a space for discussion with the architecture students from Mackenzie.
Development: On April 28th we discussed the city with the architecture and urbanism students from Mackenzie through an urban experience. We blindfolded the students to heighten their other senses and understand the city through and unconventional, sensory, and collaborative way. Through this process students informally learned the importance of listening to the people involved in an urban or architectural project and being aware of the small details of the city. It made the students aware of their own perspectives and how they visualize the city.

Earth Day

Proposal: Celebrate Earth Day by doing a hands-on activity to compliment the global online campaign about climate change.
Development: On April 22nd, Earth Day, we participated in the online campaign #TheCimateIsChanging created by the American agency Purpose. In a partnership with Engajamundo and with the help of Atados, RedBull and Aqualimp, we invited people to share what they do to help the world under the MASP museum. Among other activities we used art, music and dance to get people to pay attention to the theme and inspire them to act in a fun and dynamic way. The artist Mudando painted a water tank that was then donated to the Bororé Island community’s Ecoativa cultural space and turned into a cistern to collect rain water.

CaminhaDown

Proposal: Give an open painting workshop during the CaminhaDown event.
Development: To commemorate International Down Syndrome Day our partners from Project Movimentarte organized CaminhadaDown in Ibirapuera Park in São Paulo. We helped the cause by bringing a bit of color and artistic experimentation to the participants. During the event we held an open painting workshop on huge pieces of craft paper that were then used during the walk to call attention to the goals of the cause.

Feminicidade

Proposal: Celebrate International Woman’s Day in a collective way, collecting inspiring women’s stories and doing urban interventions.
Development: On March 8th, the International Woman’s day, we did a tribute to inspiring, everyday women from the city. Various volunteers listened to more than 50 women and their stories, took photos of them and wrote blurbs, poems, or phrases. Theses were then converted into wall posters posted in the streets to share their stories with people walking through the city. The event was part of the Feminicidade campaign put on by the organization Atados with the partners AU, SP Invisível, Círculo de Soñadoras, Fábrica de Sonhos and Hey Sampa. Prepara Pebas

Proposal: Organizing a wellbeing and sustainability day for Parauapebas.
Development: Acupuntura Urbana was responsible for the organization and implementation of a wellbeing festival day focused on health, sports, and sustainability activities for the opening ceremony of the largest plaza in the city. In addition to programming the activity we recruited participants and residents, managed the communication between our partners and developed pieces and products of the institutional publicity of the event.

Creative Corner

Location: Araraquara, São Paulo, SP

Proposal: Promote environmental and social awareness.
Development: For this project we had a day of activities promoting environmental awareness in the city as a way of environmental compensation for the Cipasa Urbanization. As a result, beyond the workshops to create environmental signs and environmental waste stations, those living in the community planted close to 100 saplings of native plants.

Se a Paulista Fosse Nossa

Proposal: Collect and map out the dreams to transform São Paulo by getting strangers to have meaningful conversations together and promote acts of urban kindness.
Development: The movement “Se a Paulista Fosse Nossa” invites various groups that reconsider public spaces, mobility, and other topics about the city to promote action though provoking events on Paulista Avenue. AU set up a booth with a series of playful and organic activities to get strangers to talk to each other about how they would like São Paulo to be and inspiring random acts of urban kindness through a variety of experiences.

Virada Sustentável 2014

Proposal: Collect and map out the community’s dreams to transform São Paulo and make an activity of planting in plastic bottles.
Development: As an official member of the Virada Sustentável 2014, Acupuntura Urbana hung a clothesline on which the residents and people passing by the Largo da Batata shared and exchanged their dreams about how to transform São Paulo. Beyond the Dream Exchange, we also held a children’s workshop to make mini-green spaces in their houses (mini-gardens); they did so by making plastic-bottle plant holders with an automatic, sustainable, and efficient auto-irrigation system.

Creative Paining Workshop – Maríla

Location: Alvorada Park Veranda, Marília, SP

Proposal: Promote sustainability and art activities with the families and owners of lands in Alvorada Park.
Development: We carried out the painting activity in two steps. First using the textures of recycled materials (toilet paper cardboard rolls, plastic bottles, bubble wrap, etc) so that the kids participating could learn how to revalue these materials. Second, using the items we had (lunchboxes as a canvass and rocks from the ground as paintbrushes), mixing the paint in the reused boxes to make an organic, homemade paint session. We also gave a workshop on wallets made from Tetrapack boxes where the children personalized a souvenir to bring home.

A Batata Precisa de Você

Proposal: Guide a co-creation session of the plaza’s uses through the collective construction of a plaza model.
Development: Using the ideas previously shared during the dream’s exchange session for the Largo da Batata, we proposed a communal model designing session so that people could choose where and what to implement on the plaza to compliment its existing uses and give it more structure. The activity, that took place on a Friday night, was planned in part by the movement, an organization that has been weekly occupying the street since January to redefine this unique part of the city.

Development: Taking advantage of the community space in Sesc Pompeia during the Biannual Archetecture Encounter we teased the participants with the question: “What can we do to redefine the uses of our plazas so that YOU want to spend time in them?”

 

Renovating Vila Clara

Proposal: Include the community in the process of community re-urbanization.
Development: Winner of the Renova São Paulo competition, this initiative included the collaboration of the architecture office Inter Urbano, to redefine and re-urbanize this community. We helped with the participative process by mobilizing and consulting with the local residents to project (with models) the transformations in the area. See moore”.
